Done deal: Florida State have land the deal of a talented LSU wide receiver from…

Another familiar name is coming to Tallahassee.

FSU fought hard for blue-chip wide receiver Jalen Brown but eventually finished as the runner-up (with the hometown Miami Hurricanes in third place) after he picked the LSU Tigers a year ago. After a lightning-fast recruitment in the transfer portal, Brown, at 6’1 178 pounds, announced today that he has chosen to transfer to Florida State:

Brown played in three games for the Tigers this year against Mizzou, Army, and Georgia State without recording any statistics. He preserved his redshirt and has four seasons of eligibility remaining. Brown was expected to play a much larger role in the Tiger wide receiver rotation next season, but instead he’ll be suiting up for the Seminoles.

A former blue-chip (and one-time five-star) who finished ranked inside the top 80 nationally, Brown is able to play on the inside or outside and can be moved around to fit various offensive schemes. He was among my favorite wide receivers in his cycle, and I had this to say about him as a prep recruit:

The first thing you notice about Brown is his advanced footwork and ability to change direction on a dime. Though he is still a raw talent, this skillset will help him greatly with mastering routes and improvising when the quarterback scrambles. He is able to make over the shoulder catches look routine, and has great spatial awareness when using the sideline against defenders. His confidence out there is a blast to watch because he often backs up smack talk, and he has the potential to develop into a dependable starter who can break big plays every game.

I sincerely hoped for a Hykeem Williams-Jalen Brown tandem in #Tribe23 and it will now happen, just one year later than hoped.

go into 2024 with something to prove. They want to show that they can be included in the conversation of college football’s elite. On Saturday, they got a huge boost. Former LSU Tigers wide receiver Jalen Brown announced he is committing to the program.

Florida State Lands WR Jalen Brown

Brown didn’t see the field much in 2023 which was a big reason for his departure from LSU. He was a former top-100 recruit and has a lot of potential. The Seminoles are hoping that he can become the next great receiver for the program. In the past decade, many quality receivers have come out of the program and made it in the NFL. Brown had this to say in a statement about his decision.

“The relationship with the coaches from when they recruited me out of high school was between FSU and LSU on my commitment day. They showed so much love to me and my family.”

Florida State doesn’t have a surprising schedule in 2024. The staple matchups are there against Florida, Miami, and Clemson. An early season matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be a good early season test. Outside of those games, the rest of the schedule has a lot of winnable games. The Seminoles should be in the conversation for the College Football Playoff assuming they are able to take care of business. With the playoff expanding, the program shouldn’t have an issue making it in 2024 assuming they can string together some wins.
