Elye Wahi: Chelsea transfer target's exit from Montpellier 'agreed' | FootballTransfers.com

PRESIDENT SAYS TOTTENHAM ‘INTERESTED’ IN SIGNING £30M ARSENAL FAN IF KANE LEAVES

Chelsea appear to be closing in on Elye Wahi but Montpellier’s president is expecting a bid from the Blues’ Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur before the window closes.

Legendary Montpellier boss Louis Nicollin was famous for speaking his mind, and it seems that the proverbial apple does not fall far from the tree.

Louis’ son – and current Montpellier president, Laurent Nicollin – has been refreshingly open about Elye Wahi’s future throughout a summer of sustained speculation.

He confirms that Chelsea have submitted a bid reportedly in the region of £24 million. One the Ligue 1 outfit have rejected. He also expects to receive an offer from the Northern side of the English capital too, with Tottenham Hotspur scouring the market for strikers capable of stepping into Harry Kane’s potentially Bayern-bound boots.

“There are offers. We expect more,” Nicollin tells RMC Sport. “We’ve had an offer from Chelsea. We thanked them, but we refused. We wait.

“I had Tottenham, who are interested, and they should move soon. There is also Frankfurt. This is a game of musical chairs; if Kane leaves Tottenham and/or (Randal) Kolo Muani from Frankfurt, automatically, things will change. We also learned that Benfica was interested.”

Montpellier reportedly value Wahi at closer to £30 million.

And while there will obviously be doubts about whether one so young can really step into Kane’s sizeable shoes, Wahi did score 19 Ligue 1 goals last season at the age of just 20.

Nicollin, meanwhile, is setting no deadline for Wahi’s departure. If he has to wait until the end of the window to extract maximum value, so be it.

“We are in no rush. If he stays, he will stay. There will be no worries,” the president adds. “Elye said he wanted to leave. We came to an agreement with his agents. We are working together.

Tottenham are also keeping tabs on Gent’s prolific Gift Orban, while closing in on a £13 million deal for Rosario Central whizzkid Alejo Veliz.

Nicollin did admit earlier in the summer, however, that Wahi ‘really likes Arsenal’. It remains to be seen if the Gunners fan is willing to put his red-and-white allegiance to one side if Tottenham firm up their interest in the coming weeks.
