The midfielder is under contract with Gwanhju until the end of this year but could be on his way to join Oh Hyeon-gyu, Yang Hyun Jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu in Glasgow.
As a central midfielder Ho-yeon would find himself joining a very competitive area of the Celtic squad with Kwon sent on loan to St Mirren without having started a match since his summer move.
Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley are the established first picks with David Turnbull, Odin Thiago Holm, Tomoki Iwata and Paulo Bernardo all available as back up.
In a transfer round up in the Daily Record, Scott Burns reports:
Celtic have also held talks with FC Gwangju midfielder Jung Ho-yeon. There is a good chance a move for the South Korean could progress before the close of the window, although Gwangju would prefer him to leave at the end of the year.
It is difficult to justify bringing in any midfielder to Celtic with Iwata, Holm, Bernardo and Kwon all signed during 2023 and struggling to stake a claim for regular involvement.
That problem seemed to be acknowledged when Bernardo was signed on loan from Benfica but it seems that Mark Lawwell is trying to bring in another midfielder to the squad.
