The plane’s door falls off midway over New York, requiring an emergency landing near Buffalo.
Transportation authorities report that on Monday, a door came off an aircraft mid-flight, but the plane made a safe landing at the airport in Buffalo, New York.
The Federal Aviation Administration released a statement after the pilot reported missing the left rear passenger door of the single-engine Diamond DA40 aircraft. The aircraft touched down at Buffalo Niagara International Airport at approximately 5:30 p.m. There were two passengers.
A few miles south of the airport, over the Buffalo neighborhood of Cheektowaga, the private jet lost its door, according to the police.
The pilot was heard telling air traffic controllers, “We have an emergency; we’re heading back,” on audio that was recorded.
Asked to clarify the emergency’s nature, the pilot replies, “We lost our rear door.”
There have been no reports of property damage or injuries. The area is being searched by police for the missing door. The event is being looked into by the FAA.
