The $8 million sale of Michael Jordan’s championship Air Jordans
The six-shoe Sotheby’s The Dynasty Collection, which is displayed above, is an example of Michael Jordan’s championship Air Jordans that are up for sale. It’s not common to see them together, though.
The “Infrared” Air Jordan 6, “Charcoal” Air Jordan 7, “Playoff” Air Jordan 8, “Bred” Air Jordan 11, “Playoff” Air Jordan 12, and the “Last Shot” Air Jordan 14 are among the pairs of Air Jordan sneakers in this group. Each sneaker has an autograph from Michael Jordan and was worn by the player himself throughout his six championship runs with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. Sotheby’s said that the entire collection is up for private sale as a whole since the auction house believes that selling the sneakers will result in a greater price.
The ensemble is compared to “the Mona Lisa” of sneaker collecting and sports memorabilia by Brahm Wachter, head of streetwear and current collectibles at Sotheby’s. According to Wachter, “they converge here with The Dynasty Collection, even though they are two distinct communities.” “They also symbolize the convergence of Jordan’s style legacy and championship history, which have worked together to establish him as a worldwide phenomenon. As a collective, they represent significant historical and cultural moments, making them some of the most valuable basketball sneakers a collector could possess.
From now until March 3, the whole Sotheby’s The Dynasty Collection exhibit is on view in Dubai. After that, the collection is expected to go to Singapore from April 1 to April 8 and Hong Kong from April 1 to April 8.
