The Northern Irishman has earned a lot of praise for his work at Portman Road during his two years there so far.
He has led the Tractor Boys back to the Championship, with the team instantly getting into the promotion mix at the top of the second division table.
This has naturally led to speculation over his future, with the likes of Crystal Palace circling around the 37-year-old.
McKenna has so far remained committed to Ipswich, but his resolve may be tested in the near future.
Palmer believes that a move to Palace is unlikely for McKenna due to the backing he’s received by the Ipswich owners.
He has claimed that the manager’s departure would only be for a club even bigger than the Eagles.
“Kieran McKenna has done a fantastic job at Ipswich Town,” Palmer told Football League World.
“At the moment, they are struggling to convince him, and that’s due to the fact that he’s been backed by the owners, he’s been backed again this January transfer window.
“The club is financially on a good footing, he’s looking at making history, back-to-back promotions, if he can seal promotion with Ipswich.
“I think the tide has turned a little bit now, I expected it to a little bit with Leeds coming on very strong now, Southampton coming on very, very strong.
“It’s going to be a three-way tussle between those three teams for that second automatic spot.
“Should Ipswich miss out on that, which I fear they may do, I fancy Leeds very strongly, I did at the start of the season, then I still think Southampton will get promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs.
