When the NBA suspends the season due to the coronavirus, the Miami Heat will, at minimum, be permitted to train.

Following the infection of Rudy Gobert, the center for the Utah Jazz, who is now the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, games were suspended on Wednesday night. It was discovered a day after that teammate Donovan Mitchell had tested positive as well.

The Toronto Star reports that the league intends to halt play for a minimum of thirty days.

Coach Erik Spoelstra of the Heat stated, “I found out as I was walking to the locker room,” following the team’s defeat over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. “Our changing area remains in disbelief. This is a really important moment. The league acted wisely and appropriately, in my opinion. All of us have to do is keep an eye on the circumstances and see where they go from here. This, in my opinion, shows where things are at the moment. It doesn’t change. It’s intensified considerably more right now.”

38 Americans had lost their lives to the illness as of Thursday. 1,323 cases have been confirmed. Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Hockey League, and the NCAA all suspended play after the NBA did. Due to the pandemic, every league either canceled or suspended events. The NFL canceled the league owners meetings scheduled for West Palm Beach, Florida, among other things. The bulk of the conference tournaments for both men and women were also suspended by the NCAA. The PGA Tour will play events in which there are no spectators.
