Arizona breaks into the top 5 in the college basketball rankings as Grand Canyon gains momentum
In the most recent men’s NCAA basketball rankings, which were made public by The Associated Press on Monday, the Arizona Wildcats jumped from eighth to fifth place.
After overcoming Utah in three overtime on Thursday, Arizona (19-5) extended its winning run to five games. On Saturday, they easily defeated Colorado by 20 points.
Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kansas were ranked lower than the Wildcats.
With a 10-3 record in the Pac-12, Tommy Lloyd’s squad leads second-place Washington State by one game. Washington State is the only other team in the league to be ranked in the top 25. With 82 points, the Cougars sit five spots outside of the top 25.
After the Wildcats visit rival Arizona State this coming Saturday, Washington State and Arizona will meet in ten days.
There are other teams that represent Arizona in terms of AP recognition besides the Wildcats. Grand Canyon (22-2) received 13 points in the rankings but is 13 places outside of the top 25.
The Antelopes, who are now 12-1 in WAC play and two games ahead of Tarleton State, have also won five straight games. This past week, they triumphed 94-65 over Souther Utah.
