Arizona men’s basketball drops two positions in the Associated Press poll after losing to Washington schools at home.
The men’s basketball team from Arizona had a brief stint in the top 5.
The Wildcats, who split their series against the Washington schools, fell two positions to No. 6 in the Associated Press poll released on Monday. Arizona suffered a Thursday night loss to Washington State before defeating Washington on Saturday.
In the rankings, Marquette and Tennessee outranked Arizona. This week’s top picks are Houston, Purdue, and UConn. Arizona garnered 1,188 votes, as opposed to 1,373 a week earlier.
After losing against ASU on Saturday, Washington State rose two positions to No. 19 in the rankings. Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times put the Sun Devils ninth on his list, but ASU still managed to garner 17 votes. It’s not apparent if that was deliberate or not. Despite being 15–13 and coming off a double-digit loss to Arizona, Washington was still given four votes.
Despite their decline in the AP poll, Arizona is ranked fourth in the NCAA Net Rankings, which are used by the NCAA selection committee to determine seeding.
