Washington Commanders: Drake Maye Responds Startlingly To The Thought That He Might Have To Face Off Against Former Teammate Sam Howell in Washington, D.C.
The Washington Commanders have a new general manager and owner, Dan Quinn, leading an outstanding coaching staff that includes several well-known figures in football circles, as well as former NFL head coaches Kliff Kingsbury (offensive coordinator) and Anthony Lynn (running backs).

Almost everyone agrees that Washington will select one of the top quarterbacks with the No. 2 overall pick in a class that features the most talent at the position in recent history.
Who Washington chooses with the highly sought-after second choice is the most important question. Barring a wild turn of events or a major trade, the Chicago Bears will almost certainly select USC standout Caleb Williams at No. 1, forcing Washington to choose between LSU dual-threat quarterback Jayden Daniels and UNC quarterback Drake Maye.
Though opinions on how NFL Draft evaluators rank each prospect vary, it’s generally agreed that selecting any of the two would be a wise choice and an immediate improvement for any club.
After Sam Howell, the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders the previous season, went for the NFL, Maye had a fantastic year at UNC in his first season as the team’s starter. Maye then became one of the most talked-about names in NFL circles.
After finishing the 2022 season with 4,115 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and just 7 interceptions, the first-year UNC starter started to garner attention. He also displayed exceptional agility for a 6-foot-4, 230-pound quarterback by rushing for an additional 653 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Though they rank Maye as a top five quarterback with a ton of talent, PFF gives Daniels a slightly higher grade than Maye and predicts Washington will choose the Heisman Trophy winner from the previous year with the No. 2 choice.
