SO SAD NEWS : Saints quarterback Derek Carr suffers in a…

Speaking with media on Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine, Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce provided some insight into the team’s perception on the quarterback position as it approaches the 2024 NFL draft.

Although general manager Carr will ultimately decide on draft strategy, Pierce is making it plain who he wants behind center: a tough competitor who isn’t scared to take on the powerful Kansas City Chiefs.

Carr had only 79 passing yards through three quarters of play and finished 23 of 37 passes for 137 yards and no touchdowns in the defeat. With less than four minutes remaining, he was tackled and fumbled at the Saints 25-yard line, capping off his day.

“Right now, it’s just really inconsistent,” Carr remarked. “Just too inconsistent for the standard that we set for ourselves, and the inconsistency isn’t going to get you wins in this league.”

After the final sack, Carr, who has a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, took a while to stand and needed assistance from teammates to leave the field. With 2:24 left in the game, the Saints substituted backup quarterback Jameis Winston, but on his first play, Winston threw an interception.

Carr joked, “They all hurt,” in response to a question about which strikes were more painful, but he made no mention of which ones would cause long-term harm.

“It’s football,” he declared. “Everything is gonna be sore.”

Carr was started because, according to Allen, he looked fine throwing throughout practice on Friday. Carr had not taken team snaps on Wednesday or Thursday. He claimed he couldn’t be certain, but he didn’t see the shoulder holding him back during the game.

“I don’t think there was anything in there that made me feel like he can’t play,” Allen stated. Did he miss a few passes? Yes, he did miss a few throws. Is it connected to the injury to the shoulder? You can’t ask me that. I believe that we were presented with some opportunities, but we did not fully seize them.”
Winston was substituted in because Allen claimed he just saw Carr’s shoulder get sore toward the end of the game. Despite the offensive difficulties earlier in the game, he did not think of changing quarterbacks.
“There’s probably a couple of throws where I felt like it might have come up a little bit short and I don’t know that was relative to the shoulder or not,” Allen stated.

Allen stated that they will monitor Carr’s health following the game and make decisions on whether or not to start him against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

“I’m going to do my best to get ready to go this week and hopefully be ready for practice on Wednesday, and if not Wednesday, Thursday, and I’m going to do whatever I can for our team,” Carr stated.
