Isaiah Johnson-Arigu, a freshman forward for Miami, has logged into the transfer portal, according to a Monday morning report from Joe Tipton of On3.

The first athlete to use the transfer portal since Jim Larranaga’s resignation last month is Isaiah Johnson-Arigu, a freshman forward for Miami. Johnson-Arigua had six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in addition to scoring eight points in consecutive games, making four of his ten shots from the field, and missing all four of his 3-point attempts.

Larranaga resigned on December 26 and gave Miami players 30 days to access the transfer site. They have until January 20th, after which they will have to wait till the season is over. When the season ends in March, Miami should expect to lose a number of players to the transfer portal.

On December 22, Larranaga informed Miami athletic director Dan Radakovic that he was leaving with immediate effect. On December 21, Miami fell 78-74 in overtime to Mount St. Mary’s, a lesser Division I program. Miami had lost to a weaker Division I program for the second time this season. On November 30, Miami lost to Charleston Southern 83-79.

Johnson Arigua was the No. 129 player overall and No. 26 small forward in the 2024 class out of Minneapolis Totino-Grace – he was also the No. 3 player from Minnesota for his class. The departure of Johnson-Arigu to the transfer portal is more of a long-term loss than one that will hurt Miami for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.
