Burnley seals deal with England U20 midfielder Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa

Burnley has successfully secured England Under-20 midfielder Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa.

The signing comes after Ramsey’s 12-year tenure with the Villans and for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Ramsey’s move to Turf Moor is on a five-year contract, marking him as Vincent Kompany’s 11th acquisition this summer.

Sharing his excitement about the transition, Ramsey commented, “I’m absolutely buzzing. I have been waiting to be a Burnley player for a while now and I’m really happy it’s all officially done now. I can’t wait to get started.”

He further expressed his joy by saying, “I can’t wipe my smile off my face. When you come to a new club you want the lads to welcome you in and everyone here has done that straight away. It’s been really easy to settle, everyone has been amazing.”

The 20-year-old midfielder started his journey with Aston Villa, advancing through their youth set up.

He made his mark in the senior team during an EFL Cup match against Barrow in August 2021.

He was loaned to Cheltenham Town in January 2022 where he featured in 14 matches.

Norwich City in the Championship benefitted from Ramsey’s prowess at the start of the previous season, with the young player making 20 appearances.

Ramsey’s subsequent stint with Middlesbrough witnessed him netting five goals in 11 matches, assisting the team to clinch a spot in the play-offs.

Adding to his portfolio, Ramsey has represented England from the U16-U20 levels and he was part of the U19 squad which triumphed in the UEFA European Championship last year.

Ramsey, the younger brother of Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, spent the first half of last season on loan at Norwich City, where he scored three goals and assisted a further three in 18 league appearances.

He was recalled by Villa in January and spent the second half of 2022/23 on loan at Middlesbrough, netting five times and assisting once in 11 Championship matches.

A product of Villa’s Academy, Ramsey has been capped by England at every level from Under-16 to U20 level and was part of the U19s squad that won the UEFA European Championship last year.
