Blacksburg, Virginia In order to participate in the yearly Virginia Tech Invitational, Charlotte Track and Field traveled north to Blacksburg, Virginia. Over 50 Charlotte competitors participated in 34 different events during the two-day competition. GOING TARGET In the women’s 60-meter dash, junior Joyasia Smith finished first with a time of 7.36, followed closely by senior Aniya Matthews in second place with a time of 7.46, which now ties her for the tenth-best finish in program history.

Makhiyah Pittman was not far behind, setting a new personal record in the same event with a time of 8.74. In the Women’s 200m, Holloway and Alozie placed second and third, respectively, with times of 24.40 and 24.65.

ON THE FIELD In the women’s shot put, junior throwers Sarah Pullium and Kayla Davis-Edwards both set new personal records. Pullium threw 14.29m (46-10¾), which improved her record to the fifth best ever, and Davis-Edwards threw 14.82m (48-7½), which improved her record to the fourth best ever. Pullium also set a new personal record in the women’s weight throw, throwing 17.36 meters (56-11½) to rank ninth all-time and place in the top 10. Chaunesse Barringer placed second in the women’s long jump competition and rose to the fourth-best all-time in program history by setting a new personal record of 6.09 meters (19-11¾). In the event, sophomore Sasha Gregory also set a new personal record by jumping 5.76 meters (18-10¾).
