Warriors star ‘Captain’ Klay Thompson reveals new signature shoe
Klay Thompson unveiled his latest signature shoe on Instagram. The Anta KT9 takes direct inspiration from his love for boating in open water.
Klay Thompson is still enjoying his annual offseason trip to China, soaking in the lavish reception he gets every time the Golden State Warriors star heads to the Far East. What better time to give fans an early glimpse at his latest signature shoe?
“Captain” Klay posted a pair of photos on Instagram featuring the KT9, his ninth signature sneaker with Chinese brand Anta. The shoe is directly inspired by Thompson’s affinity for boating open waters, an interest he developed while helping lead the Warriors to four championships during his 12 year-tenure in the Bay Area.
Thompson’s love of boating has only ingratiated him even further with Dubs fans across the globe. He routinely drives his boat from Tiburon across the San Francisco Bay to home games and practices at Chase Center. Who could forget his hilarious ride across choppy waters to celebrate the Warriors’ 2022 championship with teammates and fans in downtown San Francisco?
Thompson’s love of boat life extends beyond leisure, though. During his arduous two-and-a-half year recovery from a torn ACL and ruptured Achilles tendon, open waters provided Thompson a sense of mental solace that was otherwise tough to come by during the most difficult stretch of his career.
“It’s been so good for my mental health,” he told NBC Sports Bay Area in November 2021, two months before his long-awaited return to the floor. “When the days would get really tough, I would take a cruise into the city or toward Oakland or just be out in nature. It always helps.”
The Anta KT9 has yet to be officially released.

2 recent Golden State Warriors’ forwards remain NBA free agents
Of the 18 players the Golden State Warriors utilized last season, 15 currently hold contracts for next season. Nine of those remain with the franchise, with six having departed either via trade or free agency this offseason.
That leaves three players whose futures remain clouded. 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala is still expected to retire after 19 seasons in the league, but the 39-year-old is yet to officially make an announcement and has left the door ajar for a return.
Former Golden State Warriors’ forwards JaMychal Green and Anthony Lamb are still looking for a new home in NBA free agency.
JaMychal Green and Anthony Lamb are at different points of their NBA career, but they’re together in hoping it extends beyond last season’s campaign with the Warriors. Both played important roles at certain times for Golden State, though are seemingly unwanted by the franchise or rivals at this stage of the offseason.
Green has played nine seasons in the league after going undrafted in 2012. The 33-year-old signed with the Warriors in August last year after reaching a buyout agreement with the Oklahoma City Thunder
The 6’9″ big man played a sporadic role during the regular season, appearing in 57 games and averaging 6.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 14 minutes per game. Green shot an effective 54% from the floor and 37.8% from three-point range.
With Steve Kerr desperate for more floor spacing against the Los Angeles Lakers in the second-round of the postseason, Green replaced Kevon Looney in the starting lineup for Game 2 and 3 of the six-game series.
Lamb played more of a role during the regular season, playing 62 games and averaging 6.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.3 minutes per game. After starting the season on a two-way contract, the 25-year-old was converted to a standard deal and onto Golden State’s main roster ahead of the playoffs.
Lamb is still eligible for a two-way contract with the Warriors or another team next season, yet nothing has been reported on that front. Meanwhile, it’s fair to assume that Green’s time with the franchise has ended as a brief one.
