Gary Caldwell, the manager of Exeter City, has stated that his team will immediately look at the free agent market.
Exeter City wants to add players despite the transfer window having closed on Friday.

This weekend, the League Two champion Leyton Orient will visit the Grecians at home.

The manager of the team has provided DevonLive with the following transfer update: “We still have a desire to improve and have a handful of alternatives of unattached players so we will keep exploring, but it is where we are. With a tiny group, we are performing admirably, but we still need more players to back them.

We will consider free agents, but only if they are the proper fit; we won’t do it just for the sake of it. We will introduce those characters if they are available, but they will need to adopt the mindset and desire to get better every day.

Exeter plans additional upgrades

Exeter scoured the market during the summer to add 10 fresh players to their roster. Matt Taylor was replaced by Caldwell in the latter part of last season after they were defeated by Rotherham United in the Championship. Caldwell, a former player for Wigan Athletic and Chesterfield, was eager to instill his own personality into the group.

Even though players like Tom Carroll, Reece Cole, Zak Jules, and Ryan Trevitt have joined the club to improve it, their boss feels there are still some areas where they can do better.

The Devon team has a strong start to the new season despite their need for more reinforcements. They have earned 13 points from their first six league games, winning four times, drawing once, and losing once. They are presently atop the League One standings.

Last time out, Exeter defeated Burton Albion 1-0 thanks to a late winner from newcomer Trevitt. This Saturday, the Grecians return to action against a Leyton Orient team that has only triumphed once since securing their promotion to the third tier under Richie Wellens.

Celebrating 20 years of Supporters’ Trust ownership!

The Supporters’ Trust took over Exeter City 20 years ago

Twenty years is an awfully long time in Football and at Exeter City.

Players have come and gone, managers have changed, rules and regulations have been updated, but one thing has remained strong and consistent at Exeter City, and that is the Exeter City Supporters’

The Exeter City Supporters’ Trust was formed in May 2000 with the aim to have more influence and give practical help like fundraising to help sign players.

It quickly became clear that this was not enough. Frustrated at the lack of respect shown by the Club Board, members of the Trust voted in February 2003 to change their main objective from ‘support’ to ‘own’ the Club.

Never was a decision timelier. For within three months the Club was in chaos – relegated from the Football League and key figures arrested.

The Trust, with its new constitution, came to the rescue. It accepted an invitation by the former Chairman (and majority shareholder) to take over the day to day running of the Club. And in a historic move in September 2003 the Trust bought the majority shareholding.

‘We own our Football Club’ became the rallying call and it still is. Nearly 17 years on the club is still owned by its fans – a journey that has taken in two promotions, four trips to Wembley, mouth watering cup ties with Manchester United and Liverpool, a centenary visit to Brazil, stadium and training ground redevelopment and a stunning array of young stars coming through our academy.

It’s an incredible story. To all our members we say a massive thank you and to everyone else we urge you to join today. Be part of and help shape the next 20 years!

There is great satisfaction that, even now, 20 years on, around 3,700 Exeter City supporters retain their faith in the Trust ownership model and continue to support it, with more new fans joining regularly.

In this uncertain world it is reassuring that so many people continue to follow and support the football club and take pleasure in being part of the body of owners.

Thank you for your loyalty and dedication and here’s to another 20 years (at least!)
