Prior to 2024, Southampton has to be aware of three player contracts.
Both on and off the pitch, Southampton experienced a lot of upheaval this summer.
Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League proved the catalyst for a lot of much-needed change at the club.
There were several player additions and departures, with the Saints profiting greatly from the sales of Romeo Lavia, James Ward-
Prowse, and Nathan Tella.
A few players’ contracts are about to expire next summer, which might make things busy for the club again.
Here we look at three player contracts that the Saints need to keep an eye on ahead of 2024…
Che Adams
The Saints’ primary contractual worry right now is Che Adams.
The striker, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign, nearly left the team during the summer transfer window after
being linked to several Premier League teams.
Whether or not he signs an extended deal remains to be seen. But if there’s no sign of him extending his stay, a January sale could
become a very realistic possibility for the Scot.
Stuart Armstrong
Fortunately for the Saints, not many of their important players will be under contract expiration next summer. However, Stuart
Armstrong is another whose contract is up the next year. Given that Armstrong has been instrumental thus far this season, the team
could want to keep him around.
In Southampton’s first five league games this year, he has started four. Under Martin, he’s proving to be a very valuable player, and if
he has a strong year, the club may soon have to consider offering him a contract.
Adam Armstrong
Up until 2025, Adam Armstrong is still under contract. With four goals already under his belt, the striker appears to be in for a very
productive 2023–24 season, and if that holds true, he may make transfer news the following summer.
Additionally, Southampton may find themselves in a challenging situation similar to the one with Adams this summer as he will only
have one year left on his deal next summer.
Armstrong has had difficulties since leaving Blackburn Rovers in 2021, but he is undeniably demonstrating his value in the
Championship.
