The Premier League’s August honours go to Maddison and Postecoglou.
Ange Postecoglou and James Madison undoubtedly benefited from the international break. The Premier League Manager of the Month title was given to Tottenham Hotspur’s new head coach this morning, giving him his first honor in the English top division.
With victories over Manchester United and Bournemouth along with a draw at Brentford in the first week, Ange guided Spurs to an unbeaten August. Since Nuno Espirito Santo, Postecoglou is the only manager of Tottenham to win a monthly award in the first month of his term. He triumphs over a packed field of contenders, including David Moyes, Mikel Arteta, Jurgen Klopp, and Pep Guardiola.
There is more good news in the meanwhile. The EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month for August went to James Maddison as well!
At your new club, I doubt you’ll be able to leave as strong of an impact as Madders made here. He may have snatched the title out from under the other nominees’ noses, including Taiwo Awoniyi, Jerrod Bowen, Bryan Mbeumo, Kaoru Mitoma, and Rodri, who had a goal and two assists in his first three appearances for Tottenham.
Considering what occurred to the past two Tottenham managers who won Premier League Manager of the Month, I have been a frequent visitor to this site for a long time and can already foresee the superstitious whining that will take place in the comments. I’ll thus only make two points. Let’s start with hope since this feels different. And secondly:
