According to John Percy, Middlesbrough made a bid for West Brom midfielder Jed Wallace over the summer.

On Tuesday, September 19, a journalist for The Telegraph claimed that the Baggies rejected a £3 million bid for their captain from

Championship rivals during the transfer window.

The 29-year-old’s departure would have seen yet another experienced player leave the Hawthorns after Carlos Corberan was forced to

balance the books.

Couldn’t let him go

It would have been greeted with great disappointment if Wallace had left West Brom over the summer following his excellent first

season at the club.

The midfielder scored six goals and laid on eight assists as he appeared in every single game for Albion over the course of the

campaign.

As a result of multiple departures, Corberan gave him the armband over the summer since he saw him as an important component of his plans.

It wouldn’t have come as a huge surprise if he had left due to the ongoing financial struggles the Baggies are facing, but it certainly

wouldn’t have gone down well with the manager.

Although Wallace hasn’t had the best start this season after failing to score and registering just one assist in the opening six matches,

he has the quality and experience to come good as the campaign goes on.
