AFLW R10 injury update: Experienced defender closes on return

Nicole Bresnehan is a chance of returning for North Melbourne’s Pride Round clash with the Western Bulldogs

North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos co-vice-captain Nicole Bresnehan is on the verge of a return after ticking off her biggest training session since suffering a left ankle syndesmosis injury.

Bresnehan hasn’t featured for the Roos since Round 4’s loss to Brisbane in Launceston, but will be in consideration for selection if she can complete a full training load this week.

The defender’s inclusion would be a massive boost for coach Darren Crocker’s group, which is looking to pick up a win against the Western Bulldogs before heading into the AFLW finals.

Kate Shierlaw and Lulu Pullar both sustained head wounds in a marking contest at Norwood Oval last Sunday, but were cleared of concussion before returning to the field to finish the Round 9 contest against the Crows.

“Lulu’s head wound was more significant and it required her to go hospital on Sunday night to get stitches following the game,” AFLW head of physical performance Alex Veitch told NMFC Media.

“Her availability for this weekend will be guided by medical advice and both players will be monitored for delayed concussion symptoms over the next few days.”

Experienced forward Ailish Considine has been sidelined for the next three weeks, having suffered “a moderate-grade hamstring strain” at training last week.

“She has commenced her rehab and will progress as appropriate over the coming weeks,” Veitch said.
