Sky Sports claim Rangers have won race to sign 20-year-old wanted “across Europe”
Rangers have agreed a new three-year contract with Northern Ireland international Ross McCausland.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that Rangers have put an end to much speculation surrounding the 20-year-old by agreeing a new deal.
With the contract yet to be announced officially by the club, the broadcaster appears pretty adamant that Ross McCausland has committed to Ibrox until 2027.
This follows on from reports in the press that Rangers were closing in on a deal for the former Linfield talent, who has impressed since breaking into the team this season.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement had also hinted that a deal was nearing completion ahead of the weekend’s trip to Pittodrie.
Rangers Striker Ross McCausland Contract Ross McCausland made his debut before this season, but the winger has emerged as a real option for the Rangers squad this season.
The winger has featured in eight of the club’s last 10 games since Philippe Clement took over as manager, in the League Cup semi-final victory over Hearts and in the Europa League draw with Sparta Prague.
Only he was unable to play midway through.
After making his first start for the club in the 2-0 win over Livingston, McCausland also made his first international appearance for Northern Ireland during the recent international break.
The winger is currently in charge at Ibrox as Rangers prepare to announce the signing of Ross McCausland after coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at the weekend.
What is the possibility of being a hero in your own country?
As Ross McCausland’s first-team presence at Rangers grows, so does interest in his services.
Premier League side Brentford and Serie A side AS Roma are said to be interested, while Sky Sports claim clubs “across Europe” are monitoring the player’s situation.
Rangers also stopped one of their top talents from leaving the club for a reported £350,000 development fee.
The fact that Rangers have tied such a highly-rated winger down on a new contract is obviously a positive, but the situation also brings the club’s homegrown struggles under the spotlight.
Having been trained at the club’s Academy, Ross McCausland will qualify as a homegrown player for Rangers in European competition.
The Ibrox side’s struggles with the UEFA squad registration rules has been well documented with the Scotland squad a glaring example of the club’s shortcomings.
Now set to commit to Ibrox until beyond his 23rd birthday, fans will hope the winger can succeed where other Academy talents have failed and cement a place in the starting XI.
