8/10 man of the match – Rangers player ratings vs Aris Limassol…

Rangers were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at Ibrox by Aris Limassol in the Europa League group stages after a poor performance.

Rangers player ratings v Aris: 1/10 ace stinks out Ibrox

Aris found themselves 1-0 up through Shevy Babicka after a slow start from the Gers, and Philippe Clement reacted by substituting Todd Cantwell almost immediately after just 36 minutes.

It took just three minutes of the second half for an equaliser though, as substitute Ross McCausland bagged his first senior goal with a fine strike that went in off the post. He should’ve added to it in the second half but didn’t pull the trigger and Aris were able to clear.

Danilo had a big chance too but the team just couldn’t convert and in the end were forced to settle for a point, meaning their standing in the tournament will run into the final group game.

Here is how Ibrox News rated the performance of each Rangers player from the game..

Jack Butland – 5/10

Could do very little about the goal we conceded, and made one really good save in the first half but then had little to do beyond that.

James Tavernier – 4/10

The skipper has been in fine form in recent weeks under Clement but this was his worst showing for a while. He was slow defensively, ineffective going forward and became a liability whenever Aris counter-attacked.

Ben Davies – 5/10

Davies recovered well from that error for Aris’ goal to be much quicker and stronger in his battles against the attack. He was good on the ball too and helped the team to battle back, but he shouldn’t be surprised if Leon Balogun is recalled to the side at the weekend.

John Souttar – 6/10

Souttar looked good in his first start for a while. He carried the ball out of defence well to break the lines and his passing was purposeful. Just a shame he couldn’t get the clean sheet to help the team to three points.

Borna Barisic – 5/10

Barisic gets a lot of stick but he did quite well all things considered. Put in a few really dangerous crosses, defended well against his winger in one on one situations and also did well in the air to clear when necessary.

John Lundstram – 6/10

The former Sheffield United man has become a valued member of what Clement is building in midfield, but he was left on an island for much of the game. He won his tackles, was good on the ball and not afraid to shoot, but defensively he was a bit all over the place because of a lack of help.

Jose Cifuentes – 3/10

Cifuentes started the game incredibly slowly and really struggled to get to grips with the pace of the game. When he did finally find his footing he played everything very safe and offered very little to the team. It says a lot that we can’t wait until Ryan Jack is fit again.

Todd Cantwell – 3/10

Cantwell didn’t have a good first half and he was brutally hooked by Clement after just 35 minutes with Gers 1-0 down. A message if we’ve ever seen one that nobody’s position in this team is safe.

Sam Lammers – 1/10

Another shockingly bad performance from the Dutch forward, and it raises more question marks about how Tom Lawrence didn’t get the nod. His touch was off, his movement was poor, he struggled to complete simple passes and was barely a threat in front of goal. One of the worst signings in recent Rangers history.

Abdallah Sima – 4/10

Sima’s goalscoring form has really dried up, and along with that he’s now stopped offering much else to the team. His passing wasn’t the best, his dribbling ineffective and he was shot-shy throughout. Clement needs to find a way to get him back in his groove.

Danilo – 7/10

It’s crazy to think that Michael Beale was picking Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers to start ahead of this guy earlier this season. His energy is boundless, he links really well with the rest of his teammates and is a constant nuisance. Should have scored to make it 2-1, but overall another strong display.

SUBSTITUTES

Ross McCausland – 8/10

There was a bit of shock when he was left out of the starting lineup, and there was even more when he was brought on after just 36 minutes for Todd Cantwell. But his goal was really well taken and he could have had a couple more with some better decision-making. A really impressive performance and should start at the weekend.

Tom Lawrence – 5/10

Rabbi Matondo – X/10
