Tam McManus warns Sam Lammers is under ‘serious pressure’ amid ‘poisonous situation’ at Rangers

Sam Lammers is facing a “poisonous situation” with Rangers supporters and is facing “serious pressure” to win over the Ibrox faithful, says Tam McManus.

Rangers: Sam Lammers facing 'poisonous situation' at Ibrox

The Dutch forward has managed only two goals since joining the club from Sampdoria in the summer and underwhelmed as Rangers were held 1-1 by Aris Limassol in the Europa League

That match saw Todd Cantwell hooked after just 36 minutes at Ibrox on Thursday (30 November) but pundit McManus – speaking on the PLZ Soccer Show (1 December) – thinks the wrong player was taken off.

“Personally I don’t think it was the right call, I thought he could have taken Lammers off, moved him central then moved (Ross) McCausland out wide,” he said.

“I think the boy Lammers is really, really struggling at the minute. I think he’s under serious pressure and I’ve been in situations where you’re playing with players and the fans are on their back and it filters in from the stand it becomes a bit of a poisonous situation where one guy is getting it tight and he’s getting it tight off the Rangers fans at the minute.”

Lammers was one of the nine players drafted in by former boss Michael Beale during an extensive summer recruitment drive, one that was ultimately used as a stick to beat him with and cost him his job.

Put simply, Lammers just has not impressed in a Rangers shirt, certainly not consistently anyway, and it is hard to see how he can win the fans back over or indeed prove to Philippe Clement that he can be an important player going forward.

We are in some ways still in the infancy of his time at the club, but it is difficult to believe that Lammers is going to turn into a player who can get you double figures for goals and he is not creating enough as an attacking force to justify his place either.

It might be that the writing is already on the wall with this one and Lammers might already be looking for the Ibrox exit door when the window opens next month. As it stands, there won’t be too many tears shed if he does depart.
