Rangers fans given squad “promise” after Premier League move confirmed
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has given a “promise” to supporters that the club’s injury situation will turn around within a few months.
Over the last two years in particular, Rangers have been hamstrung by a series of recurring injuries which have dramatically impacted the squad.
But now former AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement is pledging that the club’s injury problems are set to be a thing of the past after the appointment of Tom Taylor as Head of Performance.
The capture of Tom Taylor from Premier League Brighton went under the radar a little last week after it was announced alongside new Director of Football Nils Koppen.
Philippe Clement makes Rangers injury promise
Rangers have had a drastic run of issues stretching back to the likes of Filip Helander and Kemar Roofe, and more recently Tom Lawrence, John Souttar, Rabbi Matondo and Nicolas Raskin.
Philippe Clement insists the appointment of Tom Taylor is a step in the right direction for the Rangers squad and has promised that the injury situation is set to change.
Urging fans to check back in within the coming months, the Belgian insists there will be “much fewer injuries” on the road ahead at Ibrox.
“We found somebody who is really good at making players better, who had problems before,” said Philippe Clement, speaking at the Rangers AGM.
“Tom Taylor is really good and comes into the club from Brighton, a club with a good reputation the last couple of years at getting players in at not the highest prices. Also, players who had injuries before, but are fit and good at Brighton.
“I had this experience at my other clubs, that the players were more fit than they were before.
“So we are going to work in a good way together to make these things work better here at Rangers.
“So I can make a promise around that. Give us a few months to make everything better and you will see much fewer injuries, I can promise that to everyone.”
Getting to the root cause of Ibrox issues
With injuries very much on the minds of supporters, Philippe Clement has also been trying to get into the root causes of Rangers’ awful run of luck in this department.
Claiming the situation comes from a mixture of specific human body types and training/conditioning, amongst many other factors, the Rangers boss insists everyone is working to resolve the issue.
“I spoke about that, it’s case by case,” he insisted. “We have to go and look at what can be the cause and it’s several things.
“The human body, not enough training, a lot of other things. That’s why, also, it was important to get a really good director of performance into the building.
“We have a lot of good staff in the building working really hard with the players.
“I have seen the players working hard, also the injured players, to do their best.”
Rangers continue to be hampered by injury issues with midfielder Nicolas Raskin now facing a substantial injury lay-off.
The likes of Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Scott Wright also remain sidelined whilst Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence and Jose Cifuentes are working their way back from issues.
