QPR striker Sinclair Armstrong has opened up on the feeling of making his debut at senior international level.
On Sunday night, the Republic of Ireland lost to the Netherlands 2-1, and the forward came on as a substitute.
The R’s emerging star was introduced into the contest as Stephen Kenny’s team sought a victory to maintain their chances of qualifying for Euro 2024.
Armstrong achieved a big career milestone while Ireland failed to do so, and as a result, he is already considering this weekend’s matchup with Sunderland.
The 20-year-old has featured in all five of the Hoops’ league games so far this season and is aiming to make it a sixth appearance at the weekend against the Black Cats.
What has Sinclair Armstrong said of his debut in Ireland?
Despite the unfortunate outcome, Armstrong has acknowledged that he is proud to have represented his nation internationally.
He stated that he is now targeting a victory this weekend over Tony Mowbray’s club to maintain the team winning after they defeated Middlesbrough 2-0 before the September break.
According to Armstrong, via Off the Ball, “It’s a very proud day for my family and I’m only going to use this as motivation to go back to QPR and try kick on now.”
“Hopefully, I can jump right back in since we have a crucial game against Sunderland at the weekend.
“Hopefully, the boys will win again this weekend.
“Everything happened so quickly; my phone is vibrating even now while we’re talking.
“Everything occurred so quickly, but I give God all the credit.
“This is something that you hope for and that you dream of as a young child.
It’s a proud day for my family, and maybe there will be more occasions like this in the future. “I do remember being a 15-year-old and
having a video of FAITV, and I said ‘hopefully I can play in the Aviva Stadium one day’ and I’m after doing it now,” he recalled.
Armstrong has started four league games for Gareth Ainsworth’s team thus far this year.
After five games, the forward has helped the squad, which is now ranked 17th in the standings, with one goal and one assist.
QPR has thus far won two games and lost three, totaling six points out of a possible 15.

A 2-0 win over Boro before the international break helped move the side up the Championship standings.
The next match for Ainsworth’s team is Sunderland’s visit on September 16.
How significant is Sinclair Armstrong going to be for QPR this year?
At QPR, the Irishman has established himself as a promising young talent, and his performances this season have drawn attention.
He had trouble regularly scoring goals, but he has given defences all kinds of trouble as he develops into a bright young prospect.
Armstrong ultimately scored against Cardiff City in August, and his effort was a major factor in the team’s 2-1 victory.
He already appears to be a key member of the R’s this term, and the assurance that comes from being well-known internationally
should only advance his career.
