Reading FC fans call on EFL to take some blame for issues
Already 80 days late, when we have up to 30 days per calendar year before sanctions, the club is no longer in a position to spend money on players over three transfer windows.
HMRC have applied to liquidate the club over unpaid monies, but the EFL have gone further with an independent panel.
Many Royals fans feel this is kicking fans when they are already suffering, especially since the consequences are not aimed at the individual offender, Dai Yongge.
The EFL gave Yongge permission to buy the football club in 2017, although his group was not allowed to buy Hull City due to the Premier League’s failed owners’ and directors’ test.
16 points have been deducted in the past three years because of Yongge, with fears there will be more later.
Spokesman Nick Houlton said: “Since founding Sell Before We Dai, we have always made it clear that the actions of Dai Yongge – and his incompetent advisers – were the main cause of the situation.
Bad situation at Reading Football Club.
“Accordingly, we always respect the need for the EFL to enforce its rules and regulations.
We had points deducted and a transfer embargo but we still “took the medicine”.
The question now is: how much more do we have to lose?
“The latest EFL statement is concerning. While we acknowledge that they must be even-handed in their treatment of clubs in violation of their rules, it should be clear that an individual is at fault here – not a football club.
“Reading’s backroom staff worry every month about getting paid, Reading’s fans worry about the future of their club, Reading’s players worry about their efforts on the pitch being erased by incompetence in the boardroom.
“The only person that doesn’t care is Dai Yongge. If previous independent disciplinary commissions are any precedent, he will be the only individual unharmed by the panel’s ruling.
“While respectful of the EFL’s position, we think it is time they are held accountable for their role in football’s ownership problem.
“The EFL’s loose regulations let the fox into our chicken coop. The EFL’s current rules punish the chickens for being eaten. This has to change.
“When making a judgement on our situation, we call on the Independent Disciplinary Commission to question the credibility of rules that only punish those least responsible.
“When the only punishment is to punish the fans, the punishment is not fit for purpose.”
