Manchester United and Chelsea are plotting moves to make Kieran McKenna their next manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Ipswich Town are doing everything they can to convince the Northern Irishman to stay and help them remain in the Premier League next season.

Football Insider revealed on 22 May Chelsea have held talks with McKenna’s representatives about him becoming their new boss following his impressive work in his first managerial role at Portman Road.

Sources say the Blues are targeting a “young, dynamic manager”, who can implement and oversee a progressive playing style after it was confirmed Mauricio Pochettino has left the club by mutual consent.

Man United are also pondering a move for McKenna after Football Insider revealed on 20 May Old Trafford chiefs are likely to approach Ipswich about his availability after first revealing their interest in the club’s former youth-team coach at the start of April.

The 38-year-old is under contract with the Tractor Boys until 2027.

McKenna has been widely praised after helping Ipswich secure their long-awaited return to the Premier League following back-to-back promotions.

The Northern Irishman has recorded a 57.3 per cent win rate since taking over at Ipswich in 2021, drawing interest from Premier League sides over the past few months.

Talks are ongoing about the possibility of McKenna replacing Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, but the Tractor Boys are working hard to persuade him to continue his journey with the Suffolk-based club.
