When Brighton plays Bournemouth on Sunday, September 22, Roberto De Zerbi acknowledged Lewis Dunk’s chances of playing again were slim.

The Albion will resume play only three days after their heartbreaking 3-2 loss to AEK Athens at home in their inaugural Europa League match.

For Thursday’s loss against the Greek champs, Dunk and Evan Ferguson were both unable to play. Ferguson was unable to play because of sickness on the day of the game, and the Brighton captain suffered a muscle injury in the 3-1 victory against United.

De Zerbi stated that he did not know the extent of his captain’s injury prior to the Bournemouth game and did not want to take any chances with the center-back.

Ferguson’s odds of playing, though, were more upbeat according to the Seagulls’ manager.

We can’t take chances, especially at this point in the season, according to De Zerbi. There is a potential for Evan Ferguson to play.

Ferguson injured as Brighton dump Liverpool out
