Clement urged to sign 'fantastic' star who'll score 'lots of goals' for Rangers

Former Rangers captain Lee McCulloch believes Hearts and Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland will “score a lot of goals” if Philippe Clement takes him to Ibrox.
And why not?
With the exception of a disappointing spell at Belgian club Germinal Beerschot, Lawrence Shankland has scored for almost every club he has played for and at a fairly high rate.
There were 28 goals for Hearts last season, with seven more to come.
Shankland overcame Jack Butland – no easy task – during last week’s Scottish Premiership visit to Ibrox, and McCulloch is confident the Scotland international will be even more successful when paired with the creative talents of Todd Cantwell, Abdallah Sima, James.

“I think he is more than good enough to be starting for Rangers every week,” the one-time Gers skipper tells PLZ Soccer. “I think he would score lots and lots of goals.

“He is a penalty box striker. I just see Shankland scoring every week for Rangers, I really do. A fantastic player with a great attitude.”

According to reports, Rangers are already planning to back Philippe Clement in the winter window, a new centre-forward one of the priorities despite limited funds following a summer of heavy spending.

Shankland is unlikely to break the bank, however, with his Hearts contract expiring in less than two years’ time.

“I was so impressed with Lawrence Shankland (at Ibrox),” adds another former Rangers captain, Barry Ferguson. “Take away the goal. His link-up play, build-up play… I think as he’s got older he’s got better.

“I would be enquiring and asking; ‘how long has he got left on his contract? What would it cost (to get him)?’

“I am not saying Lawrence Shankland is going to score 30 goals in Europe or get you further in the Europa League. But he is a very good football player, and I would be looking at that and thinking to myself; ‘is there a possibility that could happen?’”

Rangers certainly didn’t find goals hard to come by in midweek, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers all scoring in a thumping 5-0 win at Dundee.
