Cristiano Ronaldo once held this record now it belongs to Rangers…

Rangers sealed the deal on Thursday to bring Wolves forward Fabio Silva to the club on a season-long loan deal.

Gers beat arch-rivals Celtic to the 20-year-old attacker, who cost the Molineux outfit a club-record £35m from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2020.

Silva hasn’t been able to live up to that hefty price tag with the Premier League club and as such, has spent time out on loan with PSV and Anderlecht recently.

But the newly-signed Rangers star can boast about one thing from his time at Wolves, where he is contracted to be at until June 2026. It’s the club where he took a unique Premier League record from fellow countryman, idol and legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fabio Silva eclipsed Cristiano Ronaldo

It’s no secret that Silva’s hero is Ronaldo, much like every other aspiring Portuguese footballer.

Once tipped to emulate the now Al-Nassr forward, Silva called the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star an “inspiration” back in 2020 and is absolutely desperate to play alongside him one day.

So with that said, the Rangers loanee must have been absolutely over the moon when just a few years ago, he shattered a record set by Ronaldo in 2003.

CR7 joined United from Sporting CP that year and in November, he finally netted his first Premier League goal for the club at the age of 18 years and 269 days.

It was against Portsmouth at Old Trafford and in doing so, Ronaldo became the youngest Portuguese Premier League scorer in the history of the competition.

He held that record for 17 years because that’s when Fabio Silva popped up to score his first Premier League goal and eclipse the record.

It came in a 2-1 loss to Burnley, with Silva netting an 89th-minute consolation penalty. It may not have taken home any points for Wolves, but on a personal level it was an incredible moment for the youngster now hoping to tear up the Scottish Premiership.

Silva was 18 years and 155 days old so took the record of the youngest-scoring Portuguese player in the Premier League from Ronaldo by 114 days.

The milestone still stands today and as Rangers fans, we can only hope that Philippe Clement can put Silva on the path to even more achievements with Rangers, at a personal and club level.
