Detroit Lions in Massive disagreement with the NFL…

NFL analysts and experts weigh in on the Lions’ controversy

In the aftermath of the controversy between officials and the Lions in the final minute of their 20-19 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, there’s no shortage of opinions on what went wrong.

Here are some thoughts from NFL analysts and rules gurus on the play.

Dean Blandino, Fox Sports NFL rules analyst:

“There’s some responsibility on the players, but there’s also responsibility on the referee. It’s a two-point try — for the game. There’s no reason to rush; slow it down, make sure. (Check to see) Hey, who’s eligible? Who isn’t? You go to the defense and you let the defense know, and maybe we could have avoided some of this. “I wouldn’t expect anything … I would be shocked if anything else comes from the league office today, or going forward, and it’s on to next week.”

“The players did exactly what they were supposed to do, every one of them … the official assumed (Dan Skipper) was (eligible) because he was reporting all day. That’s a plan. Where Dan Campbell failed is that he assumed that the official would have gotten it right. Why? Because he went over it, specifically, with him before the game. That’s what you do — the officials come in and you go over every trick-play scenario before the game … there’s a grease board and you literally will draw the play up exactly how it is.
