Bournemouth confirm Tyler Adams transfer from Leeds; USMNT midfielder signs five-year deal
Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams from Leeds United for a fee in the region of £23million
plus add-ons.
The Athletic reported on Friday that Adams was set for a medical after protracted talks between the clubs had yielded a breakthrough.
Adams has signed a five-year deal with Androni Iraola’s side and will wear the No 18 shirt at Vitality Stadium.
Leeds said in a short statement that Adams had moved for an “undisclosed” fee.
AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said: “We’re thrilled to have brought Tyler to the club and he is a player we’ve admired
for a long time.
“It’s been widely documented how much his talents have been recognised in this transfer window by other clubs, so to have him sign
for AFC Bournemouth shows the ambition we have as a club.
“Tyler is an exciting player who possesses plenty of experience for someone that is just 24 years of age and we’re looking forward to
working with him as he’s a player we know will be a great addition to our squad.”
The Athletic reported on Thursday that a potential deal was proving complicated, with Bournemouth believing they had met a time-
limited relegation release clause of £20m, but Leeds maintaining that it had expired.
Talks continued, despite the apparent impasse, and Adams completed his medical and finalised paperwork before the move was
confirmed on Sunday morning.
Adams had last week travelled to London to finalise a proposed move to Chelsea, only for the deal to fall through. The west London
club have since signed midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
Adams has been recovering from a hamstring injury that saw him undergo what the club described as “non-invasive” surgery at the
end of March. He had stepped up his training programme in recent weeks and is scheduled to return after next month’s international break.
He has 36 caps for the USMNT and captained them at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
