Duncan Ferguson named Inverness Caley Thistle boss as Everton legend makes sensational return to Scottish football
Big Dunc takes over as Caley Thistle’s manager from Billy Dodds in only his second full-time management position.
Duncan Ferguson has officially been named the new manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the team has announced.
The former Scotland and Rangers striker makes a spectacular comeback to Scottish football when he replaces Billy Dodds, who was
fired, in the Caley hot seat. Since leaving Forest Green Rovers at the end of the previous season, where he won just one of his 18 games
as manager, Everton icon Ferguson, 51, has been searching for a new position.
And now he is in charge of Caley Thistle, who are dead last in the Scottish Championship with just one point. This is his second full-
time managing position. Duncan Ferguson has been named the new manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club, the club
announced in a statement.
“The Everton legend joins us on a three-year deal following an extensive recruitment process which involved some truly excellent
candidates. Duncan has worked alongside some of the most respected and outstanding football coaches in the world in recent seasons
and we are proud to have him join ICTFC as our new manager.
“His professionalism, commitment and dynamic leadership skills shone through in our discussions, making him the stand out
candidate. Everyone at the club is looking forward to supporting Duncan as the hard work starts now and we hope every Caley Jag will
now get right behind him and the team in what we are sure will be a thrilling journey.”
Big Dunc – who has also had several spells as Everton caretaker manager – will immediately be tasked with guiding the Highlanders
out of the relegation zone after a shocking start to the campaign which led to the axing of Dodds.
Last year’s Scottish Cup Finalists face Arbroath on Saturday and Ferguson will be in the dugout for the first time in Gayfield. Charlie
Christie and John Robertson were put in interim charge for the weekend’s defeat to Dundee United as the club studied the list of
potential candidates, with Celtic B coach Darren O’Dea and ex-St Johnstone gaffer Callum Davidson among the names linked with the vacancy.
But Ferguson has won the race for the role as the ex-Dundee United star makes a stunning comeback to Scottish football – 29 years
after leaving Ibrox for Goodison Park.
