A second winding-up petition of the season was hanging over the club until yesterday as two months of tax owed to

HMRC had been unpaid.

Owner Dai Yongge, who is trying to sell the club, paid the fee ahead of the clash against Bristol Rovers, quelling any

immediate fears of administration or winding-up orders.

Reading are winless since September and are seven points adrift at the bottom of League One.

More tennis balls were launched onto the pitch in Tuesday’s draw against Rovers, stopping the match twice.

Speaking after the match, Selles admitted that the off-field circus around the club has been seeping into his dressing room.

“It is good news that it has been paid,” the Spaniard said. “Hopefully, we can do it on time next time so we don’t have

to worry about that.

“The problem for the club is that even if you don’t get involved directly with those things, it affects everything around

us. Hopefully, things calm down and we can really focus on the things that matter.”

Reading are away from home on Saturday against Shrewsbury Town, looking to avoid going a whole calendar year
