Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil has insisted he is hoping Pedro Neto’s hamstring injury is nothing serious after the Portuguese

forward was stretchered off in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

The Wanderers star continued his terrific form this season with another Premier League assist – his seventh – for Mario Lemina’s goal.

Neto continued to look dangerous throughout the contest and provided Dan Burn with a number of problems down the right.

However, his afternoon ended earlier than anticipated when he pulled up in the middle of a Wolves counter-attack. The 23-year-old

received treatment on the field before being stretchered off to a standing ovation by the Molineux faithful.

After the game, O’Neil provided an early indication of how the winger is. “He’s moving around. Obviously hamstring injuries have very

different levels of severity, so we’re hoping it’s on the smaller side,” he told the media.

“Hodgey (Joe Hodge) had a similar one in the cup game and wasn’t out too long, so we’re hopeful that Pedro won’t be missing for long.

He’s been a big part of what we’ve managed to do so far, but for however long he’s out for, the group is ready to make sure we keep

producing performances and we keep picking up points.”

O’Neil added: “Not many Premier League squads will have two wingers of Pedro’s quality with one waiting on the bench to come on

and play. When you lose a player of Pedro’s quality, any team in this league would suffer.

“We’ll find a way, as a group, we’ll definitely find a way. It’s part of the game, people get injured. I’m more devastated for Pedro really

because he’s been in such a fantastic spot, he works his socks off and he deserves all the plaudits he’s been getting.

“My thoughts are more around him and making sure we get him back as quickly as possible to show the world what he can do again.”

Neto has suffered his fair share of injury setbacks since moving to England. In the 2020/21 season, he sustained a knee injury that

kept him out of 52 games for club and country. Last campaign, he missed more than 120 days and 27 matches after sustaining an ankle

injury. O’Neil is expected to provide an update on the forward in his pre-Sheffield United press conference next week.
