In September, the Kent club received a £12,500 fine from the FA following an investigation to racist and sexist chantin

Gillingham were charged with three counts of misconduct, with the first coming during a tie against Colchester December 2022, the second late that match against Sutton, and the third during a meeting with AFC Wimbledon in February 2023.

The FA said: ‘The racist abuse hurled and chanted during the Colchester match was vile. The sexist abuse levelled at the female physiotherapist during the Sutton match is as bad as the commission has seen, and the chanting that took place at that match was repeated during the Wimbledon match

‘No less than eight weeks separated the Sutton and Wimbledon matches and yet the commission saw no signs of specific action having been taken by the club.’

Sharing a statement in the wake of receiving the fine, the club said: ‘Chanting of this nature is unacceptable.

‘Furthermore, there is no place for any manner of discriminatory, offensive, or abusive behaviour or language of any kind inside our ground.’

The club will also be putting together an action plan to ensure that similar behaviour is not repeated at future fixtures.
