Table tennis tournament raises Mountbatten funds…

Forty-four players, including 30 mainland visitors, contested the Mountbatten charity table tennis tournament. Steve Mills was the highest-placed Island player, reaching the quarter-finals.

The semi-finals were contested between last year’s winner, Matt Ware and Adam Laws, and Owen Brown, and David McBeath, who was the eventual winner.

The trophy was presented to David by the IW table tennis association chairman, Alex Rorke, along with a cheque for £500, whilst runner-up Matt received £250. The losing semi-finalists, Adam and Owen, received £125 each, and an award for Outstanding Performance, which went to Chun Kin Lee, who received a Bribar voucher.

Alex said: “We thank the sponsors, organiser Rob Smith, Pat Thorley for refreshments and centre manager, Martin Dove, as well as all participants, and we hope the event raised over £1,500 for the Mountbatten hospice.”
