Official: Hyunju Lee renews at Bayern Munich, goes on loan to Hannover 96 with option to buy…

For those who do not know of him, Hyunju Lee was a surprise loan signing for Bayern Munich’s U-23s from South Korean side Pohang Steelers in the January of 2022, who immediately impressed with his game intelligence, close control and superb dribbling. Ergo, the loan was made permanent. After 18 months at the club, Lee had already outgrown Bayern II and the Regionalliga, so he was sent on loan to Wehen Wiesbaden in the 2. Bundesliga to take the next step. After the club’s unfortunate relegation, he briefly returned to Munich, but is immediately being sent out on loan again.

Bayern Munich’s official website confirms that the South Korean has extended his contract until 2027 and gone out on loan to Hannover 96 until 2025. Director of youth development Jochen Sauer had this to say: “Despite the relegation Hyunju played very well and developed well. In Hannover he is now at an ambitious club, where he can surely make the next big step. We will follow his progress and wish him all the best.”

Hannover’s official website corroborates the information, though it adds that Hannover has an undisclosed buy option for Lee. Additionally, he will be wearing the number 11.
