Longford star Matt Duffy’s AFL hopes have been dealt a devastating blow, leaving him with a torn anterior cruciate ligament just weeks before he heads to Australia to pursue his career.
Clubman Dromard has signed for Carlton Blues along with Kerry’s Rob Monahan, both of whom were added to the international signings list earlier this year.
However, the 19-year-old was injured while playing with Dromard and is expected to miss a lot of football next year.
The club’s pre-season training begins on November 27.
Duffy had Carlton’s blessing to play for the club before arriving in Australia and Blues official Brad Lloyd said they will assist him in his recovery.
“We truly sympathize with Matt, who has worked so hard to get this opportunity, but we have told him that we are committed to supporting him throughout his recovery.
him,” Lloyd said.

Matt has done everything he can in his home country of Ireland to ensure that when he officially joins the club, he will be ready to face the rigors of the AFL pre-season.
“It is unfortunate that he will now be sidelined, however, he will have all the resources necessary to ensure a full recovery.
” Monahan will travel to Australia later this month to begin pre-season training with Cork’s Liam O’Connell on his way to St Kilda.
Others such as Monaghan’s Karl Gallagher, Cork’s Conor Corbett, Galway’s James McLaughlin, Down’s Odhran Murdock and Tyrone’s Eoin McElholm are attracting interest from AFL clubs.
