No go for Rangers despite previous Fabrizio Romano claim
As early as the January transfer window, Michael Beale has said that he is wanting to add another centre-half and Jonathan Panzo was a favourite to join the Rangers defence.
The Gers gaffer has brought in Leon Balogun to alleviate the risk of a repeat of last year’s shambles but links continue to be reported for other targets.
As well as Auston Trusty heading to Sheffield Utd it looks like Jonathan Panzo has also been ruled out with The 4th Official reporting that Rangers interest has ended.
Jonathan Panzo won’t be heading to Rangers
Jonathan Panzo, who was expected to cost around £2.5m, had seemed like the obvious choice for Rangers, especially because of his ability to cover at left-back, however, The 4th Official has revealed otherwise:
“I have been reliably informed that Rangers are no longer interested in Jonathan Panzo after it became clear that there are several clubs interested and the defender was not very sure about a move.”
This news comes despite Fabrizio Romano had previously claimed that the interest in Jonathan Panzo from Rangers was concrete.
The 22-year old was on loan at Coventry City from Nottingham Forest last season but is being allowed to leave.
Multiple clubs have enquired about the former Chelsea academy defender but it would appear that the Light Blues have gone as far as they want.
Ben Davies has been told that he can leave the club if an appropriate offer comes in and it may be that his departure is key to any defensive reinforcements.
Not only has Balogun returned but Leon King is already back in action and Johnly Yfeko has done enough in pre-season to suggest that, if things got desperate, he could do a job alongside a more experienced partner.
