As Foster assists Burnley in their first victory, Kompany exclaims.
Lyle Foster scored the first goal upon his return from suspension, giving Burnley their much-needed first victory of the English Premier League season, 2-1 over Luton Town, while his manager Vincent Kompany gushed about his importance.
Following his red card in Burnley’s 1-1 league tie with Nottingham Forest on September 18, Foster served a three-game ban before serving it again. He made the opening score two minutes into the first half’s extra time.
With an incredible late victory at Kenilworth Road, Jacob Luton quieted the home fans. In the 85th minute, one minute and four seconds after Elijah Adebayo’s equalizer for Luton, the Danish winger cut inside and struck a looping effort into the far top corner.
After being passed down the middle by Sander Berge, Foster celebrated his comeback with a cool low finish. It was the third strike of the season for the young Orlando Pirates player, who was playing well.
It was an extremely difficult game. After a strong first half, Luton came out and put us under pressure. They scored the goal they wanted, but I’m just glad we ended up winning,” stated Foster.
The result moved Burnley over Bournemouth to 18th place with four points ahead of Saturday’s match against Chelsea, which precedes the international break.
After the Hatters’ 2-1 victory against Everton last Saturday, they continue to behind Luton and Everton on goal differential.
The two clubs left in the Premier League without a victory are Bournemouth and bottom-place Sheffield United.
Due to the outdated stadium in Luton needing improvements, the meeting between the two promoted teams was postponed until August.
Despite having only one point from their first six games, the Clarets, who won the Championship last season and were promoted, had the upper hand for the whole of the first half.
The BBC quoted Kompany as saying, “We demonstrated what got us through the Championship last season.”
“Lyle Foster’s return changed everything. We played some extremely solid football in the first half. We shared some enjoyable times. However, we now require a few scoring opportunities. More personality emerged in the second half.
Prior to Tuesday night’s game, Kompany had also mentioned how crucial Foster was to Burnley’s chances of scoring.
Foster’s comeback was described as “massive” by Kompany via planetsport.com.
Zeki Amdouni and Jay Rodriguez performed admirably in the limited time they were given to play up top, and we created at least two or three significant opportunities in each game.
