Richie Wellens, the manager of Leyton Orient, was sent off against Wycombe Wanderers last month and received a two-match touchline suspension as well as a £1,500 fine.

Wellens was accused of acting improperly and/or confrontationally, but a Football Association disciplinary panel determined the accusation to be true.

After Dan Happe was dismissed in the 3-2 loss on August 15, Wellens was also charged with inappropriate conduct.

When he approached the referee after the final horn, he was given a red card.

After the loss, Orient assistant manager Paul Terry was also dismissed after arguing with the referee Thomas Parsons. Terry was fined £500 and given a one-game suspension.

Following Terry’s dismissal, Wellens went up to Parsons and was later dismissed for his conduct against the referee.

He will miss Saturday’s League One game against Exeter City and Tuesday’s EFL Trophy meeting at Gillingham.

Leyton Orient, coming off a spectacular League Two title-winning season, wants to make an impression in the third division.

The O’s held off rivals to secure first place, finishing with 91 points to hold off pursuing Stevenage after winning 26 games and dropping only seven League Two contests.

In their hiring this summer, Orient combined youth and experience, bringing in a mix of great professionals to support their campaign’s goals.

The latter is provided by Jordan Graham and Jordan Pigott, who have joined from Birmingham City and Ipswich Town, respectively, to improve their creative and offensive alternatives. Daniel Agyei also increases the number of forwards.

While defenders Ed Turns and Brandon Cooper from Brighton and Swansea City, respectively, provide quality to the backline, young midfielders Max Sanders, Ethan Galbraith, and the returning Idris El Mizouni want to breathe new energy into the center of the pitch.

Paul Smyth and Lawrence Vigoroux, two outstanding players, have transferred to teams in higher divisions, while Craig Clay and Harry Smith also leave for Sutton United. The Leyton Orient academy graduate, 23, has made more than 110 league appearances for the team since his debut in 2019–20, tallying five goals in ten games.

Before pushing his way into the first team picture, the former Cyprus youth international played for teams like Bishop’s Stortford, Hampton & Richmond, and Dover Athletic in lesser levels.

The attacker, who helped his team win League Two over the last two seasons with 18 goals and five assists, is still a key player in the O’s quest to reach the third division.

After first making an impression on loan, contributing to 17 goals in 38 games, Archibald made a permanent move to the O’s last summer and signed a two-year contract with Lincoln City.

The Scottish midfielder joined Sincil Bank in 2020 with a wealth of EFL experience after leaving the Celtic academy, having previously played for Brentford and Macclesfield Town.

The 25-year-old played regularly after being made a permanent member of the team, contributing to his team’s promotion with five goals and six assists in 35 games. He has continued to do so thus far this season.

After spending the previous two seasons on loan at Wigan Athletic and Salford City, James joined the club in 2021 from Hibernian.

The 27-year-old made 21 appearances in his debut season with the team, contributing to eight goals, before establishing himself as a staple in the O’s starting lineup.

The former Cardiff City youth product continues to operate across the Orient defense and played 41 times in last season’s championship win.

The Irish forward rose through the ranks of Cork City before transferring to Waterford, where Ipswich Town quickly inquired about him. The forward gained notoriety in his own country.

After moving to East Anglia in 2018, the 25-year-old spent time on loan at clubs including Sutton, Ayr United, and Waterford before earning his chance with the League One team.

After making 22 games and scoring once for the Tractor Boys, he transferred to Brisbane Road in 2021 and made an immediate impact with 19 goal contributions.

His role was considerably diminished last season as he made only 15 starts, scored twice, and has not yet appeared this year.

The Brighton academy graduate joined the team last year on a two-year agreement to provide Richie Wellens’ team with a quality full-back alternative.

The 28-year-old played 32 times for Oldham Athletic and Swindon Town last season and continues to be a fixture in the O’s matchday squads. He has over 200 league appearances for Oldham Athletic and Swindon Town.

Adam Thompson

After leaving the academy, Thompson had a few first-team appearances for Watford, but he spent the majority of his time on loan at teams like Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers, and Southend United.

The 30-year-old joined the Shrimpers on a permanent basis in 2014, beginning a successful EFL career that saw him win promotions with Southend, Bury, and Rotherham United.

The defender joined the O’s in January 2021 and has since served as a valuable squad player, appearing 34 times for the east London club in League Two.

Dan Happe

Happe, another graduate of the Orient academy, has made more than 150 appearances for the team in the National League and Fourth Division, solidifying his position in the backline.

After a long-term injury derailed his promising start to the previous season, the defender signed a new contract this summer. The 24-year-old will remain at the club thanks to the deal at least for this season, with an additional year option.

Darren Pratley

The seasoned midfielder, who had rejoined the team in 2021, agreed to play another season, putting together a strong campaign at the age of 38 while still showcasing his talent in the center of the pitch.

The London-born midfielder progressed through Fulham’s levels before going on loan to nearby Brentford. Swansea City then lured him to South Wales permanently in the 2006–07 campaign.

Pratley went on to play for the Swans, Charlton Athletic, and Charlton Athletic in excess of 100 times, earning four promotions between the three teams.

Since then, he has played for the O’s in 78 league games and has continued to contribute this season as a valuable member of the team.
