Trent Alexander-Arnold captains Liverpool on his first start in over a month as Jurgen Klopp makes nine changes for the visit of Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League.

Alexander-Arnold hasn’t started since the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on September 3 after suffering a hamstring injury but the vice-captain is back in the side with the armband as club skipper Virgil van Dijk drops to the bench.

Ibrahima Konate returns to the team at centre-half next to Jarell Quansah, who makes his first senior start in Europe for the Reds. Kostas Tsimikas steps into left-back in place of Andy Robertson.

In midfield, Wataru Endo will play as the deepest of the three with Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch completing the engine room. Liverpool boss Klopp has resisted the opportunity to give Curtis Jones a start ahead of his three-match Premier League suspension for his red card against Tottenham Hotspur.

Diogo Jota, who was also dismissed at Spurs, is starting this evening, however, in a front three alongside Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, who along with goalkeeper Alisson, are the only two players to keep their places.

Portugal international Jota will miss Sunday’s visit to Brighton after his two bookings in that controversial 2-1 loss at Tottenham last weekend.

LIVERPOOL TEAM: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Endo, Elliott, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Jota. Subs: Jaros, Mrozek, Gomez, Van Dijk, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones, Robertson, Matip, Doak, Chambers.
