After the ‘painful’ Huddersfield Town encounter, Mark Robins criticizes the Coventry City players.
Last night, Coventry City lost to Huddersfield Town at home after conceding late. As a result, the Sky Blues have now surrendered nine points this season from winning situations.
After Coventry City and Huddersfield Town drew at home, Mark Robins criticized the team’s defense. Michal Helik, a towering defender, salvaged a point for the Terriers by scoring late in extra time to offset Yasin Ayari’s opening goal.
Helik’s courageous intervention prevented Darren Moore’s return to management from going wrong. Coventry lost nine points from winning positions as a consequence, which is the highest in the Championship this year.
“It’s so frustrating, but you have to pick yourself up and move on,” Sky Blues manager Robins said.
We could have won each game we played, but instead we’re only talking about eight points in eight games as we sit here. It will turn around, but getting there hurts.
“It [conceding late] might start to take on a life of its own. It involves exercising control over such circumstances.
The game can strike you in the teeth if you make mistakes, in my opinion, especially if you let your heart rule your mind occasionally because you know that’s been the case and we’re close to winning.
“They had physical advantage and the weight of the numbers on their side, but we need to perform better. There was insufficient defense.
We just needed to defend that last attack but the first header, Kels gets under the ball – was nudged under it – but he didn’t need to go there. If he’d stepped off he would have won the header and it’s game over.
“On the back of that, Binksy comes in with Hudlin in a space just in front of him and he tried to get there but he flicks it round the corner, so he’s out of the game. Jake Bidwell can go to the man on the ball, in the initial phase, and I think that was Rudoni on the ball, but he backed away. Then there’s a run off the back and they slide the ball into the box but we don’t need to let the ball go into the box. And then we are all trying to panic to get a toe on it to get it out but it hits Bobby Thomas on the head and hits the lad on the leg and goes in.
“It’s just mad! We are not in that moment and we have got to be in the moment, because if we’re in the moment we actually deal with that with calm heads. And that’s the change. That’s got to be the change to us.”
