Quick Preview – Millers v Southampton
On Saturday, Rotherham United travels to the St Mary’s Stadium for the first time to play Southampton.
The Saints entered this match with a 1-0 away victory at Stoke and now hold the tenth spot in the Championship
table. At the New York Stadium on Wednesday night, Rotherham suffered a late defeat to a two-one victory for
Bristol City and is now stuck in the bottom three.
Southampton’s last home game saw them get a three-one win over Leeds United while the Millers lost their last away
game at Cardiff two-nil.
Saints Manager Russell Martin told HampshireLive that Rotherham have some good players with experience
saying, ‘They’ve been really unlucky to not win more games so we are aware of the threat that they pose. I’m pretty
sure that the only way they will get out of their situation is by fighting and we have to be ready for that tomorrow.’
After naming an unchanged side for their last two games the Saints’ Manager has hinted that that will change on Saturday.
Things go from bad to worse for Rotherham on the injury front. Lee Peltier, Cafu and Grant Hall were back for the
mid-week match but Tyler Blackett suffered an injury late in the game which looks bad enough to keep him out for
some weeks. If this is so he joins Cameron Humphreys who will also have a long lay-off. Sean Morrison could be back
in the travelling squad after being in the treatment room since the end of August but there will be a late fitness test
for Cohen Bramall who didn’t finish the game on Wednesday.
The Referee for this game is John Busby from Oxfordshire.
