‘Poor’: Chris Sutton was really not impressed with one thing Everton have failed to do this season
Chris Sutton has slammed Everton’s terrible home record this year.
The pundit included two Luton Town players in his Premier League Team of the Week following their surprise win at Goodison Park.
The Toffees looked to have turned things around and were expected to breeze past their newly promoted opponents after enjoying
back-to-back wins over Brentford and Aston Villa.
However, the hosts found themselves 2-0 down at the hour mark and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s third in three games proved to only be
a consolation as they handed Luton their first win in the Premier League.
The weekend’s loss only serves to highlight how bad their form has been on Merseyside, even though it is shocking given how they
have played in the previous two games.
Since their previous triumph over the same team in March, they hadn’t won at home before the victory against Brentford. Since then,
they have suffered home losses to teams like Fulham, Wolves, and Arsenal.
I’m not completely sure if this win by Luton is a commentary on how good the visitors were to pick up their first ever win in the
Premier League or how terrible Everton were in front of goal, Sutton wrote for BBC Sport after selecting Luton’s Tom Lockyer in his team.
“Why does Everton always play at home? They have dropped seven of their last eight games.
Why is Everton’s home record so bad?
Everton’s home record is abysmal and it is really frustrating for fans given that they have actually performed very well on the road on a
number of occasions. Since fighting relegation, the Toffees have taken points from Brighton, Chelsea and Manchester City away from home.
It is evident that many of the players they are seeing are unable to handle the pressure that comes with every game, despite the fact
that Everton supporters are among the greatest in the nation and deserve performances that reflect their support at Goodison Park.
Everton needs players who are willing to put in the work, are passionate about the team, and aren’t afraid to get dirty. These days,
there are far too many people who don’t seem to care.
