Defender to depart Newcastle United this summer; winter deals being considered by Leeds United and Ipswich Town
e transfer window, both Leeds United and Ipswich Town were looking to bolster their rosters. One player who was connected to both Championship clubs was Newcastle United defender Dummett.
The Tractor Boys thought about their defensive alternatives and made some tentative queries, but in the end they decided against making a last-minute move. It was also said that Dummett’s circumstances at St. James’ Park attracted the attention of the Whites, but it too proved fruitless.
Now that the Welshman is out of contract this summer and lower on Eddie Howe’s hierarchy, it appears that his exit is imminent.
Reporter Joel Bland reports on X that despite accepting a wage reduction to stay at Newcastle United last year, Dummett will not be granted a contract extension. Except for brief loan periods at Gateshead and St. Mirren, he has spent his whole career with the Magpies.
It remains to be seen if Leeds United or Ipswich Town decide to rekindle their prior interest in Dummett come summertime. There are, however, more worse possibilities than the Newcastle United player to take into consideration, even though he is an accomplished and adaptable defender who might be available on a free.
