Derrick White signed a 4 year / $70,000,000 contract with the San Antonio Spurs, including $68,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $17,500,000. In 2023-24, White will earn a base salary of $17,607,143, while carrying a cap hit of $18,357,143 and a dead cap value of $17,607,143.
Guard Derrick White and the San Antonio Spurs have reached an extension agreement before the league’s deadline on Monday.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was informed by White’s agent Mike Lindeman that the 26-year-old had accepted a four-year, $73 million contract.
In 2017, the Spurs selected White, a Colorado native, with the 29th overall choice.
White has suffered multiple ailments that have limited him during his career, including surgery on his left foot’s second toe in August, so he will miss the beginning of the season as he heals. In October 2018, he also suffered a plantar fascia injury that caused him to miss time due to a knee contusion while in the NBA bubble.
After starting 55 of his 67 games in 2018–19, he began 20 games for the Spurs the previous season. However, he played mostly as a bench player in 2019–20, averaging 11.3 points on 45.8 percent shooting from the field, 3.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds.
The Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich indicated his intention to retain White around, telling reporters that he was “someone we plan on for the future.” The extension, which keeps White in Texas until after his 30th birthday, follows.
