OFFICIAL NEWS: Lions left tackle Taylor Decker set to miss 7games due to…

Taylor Decker has been a Detroit Lion for eight seasons now, and he has seen it everything. As a rookie, he participated in the playoffs; naturally, he didn’t do so until this season. Despite being one of the league’s most underappreciated left tackles, he has yet to be selected to his first Pro Bowl.

Talk of contract extensions involving the Lions is centered on Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and potentially Penei Sewell now that the summer has begun.

However, Decker, who has the longest contract of any Lion, is also approaching the last year of his current one, which runs through 2024. He inked a five-year, $59.65 million contract immediately prior to the 2020 season. His 2024 cap hit of $19.1 million is presently the tenth-highest among

August marks Decker’s 31st birthday, but he still appears to have many happy years ahead of him. Therefore, it is unlikely that the Lions will regret signing a multi-year contract to keep him around.

Taylor Decker is quite clear about what he wants out of life.
It appears that Decker and the Lions have not yet begun contract negotiations. However, in a recent interview with Kyle Meinke of MLive, he made it apparent where he wants to go when his career comes to an end.

It should come as no surprise that Decker, who is the fourth offensive lineman to start at least 100 games for the team (112 in the regular season), aspires to be a “Lion for life”. Though there is a balance to be struck regarding years, new money, guaranteed money, etc. to make a deal make sense for the team, it is reasonable to presume that the feelings are reciprocated.

Having said that, it would be shocking if Decker did not sign a new deal that ties him to the Lions for a few more seasons after the upcoming season.
