Dean Henderson’s switch from Manchester United to Nottingham Forest is in doubt as Steve Cooper’s side are now targeting Matt Turner.

Nottingham Forest have been keen on signing Henderson all summer, but the deal has been held up by several obstacles.

Erik ten Hag was reluctant to sell Henderson prior to Andre Onana arriving and Man Utd might have left Forest waiting for too long.

While Cooper is keen on signing Henderson on a permanent basis, the club have now switched their attention to Arsenal goalkeeper Turner.

With the Gunners looking to sign Brentford’s David Raya, Turner could be allowed to leave the club this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottwill only look at signing one goalkeeper this summer and so Henderson’s move is now in doubt.

“Nottingham Forest will sign only one GK this summer between Matt Turner and Dean Henderson,” Romano explained.

“Forest already asked Arsenal for final conditions of Turner deal — and it’d be a permanent transfer.”

Keeping Henderson at Old Trafford wouldn’t be the worst scenario for United as he is a more than capable backup for Onana.

However, Henderson himself has already made his feelings clear that he doesn’t want to spend another season sat on the bench.

“We have a group of keepers and, as everyone else, you have to fight for your position,” Ten Hag told reporters during pre-season.

“I think that’s normal when you’re at United. And he (Henderson) is a good goalie, he has to fight and we have to see when he can return to team training.”

United were looking for a fee of around £30m to sell Henderson this summer although the goalkeeper could now be staying put.

The 26-year-old made his feelings clear last year regarding his situation as he pushed for a loan spell away from the club.

“I didn’t really want the manager to come in and be able to see me in training because I knew he’d probably

want to keep me,” Henderson told talkSPORT last summer.

“So I tried to do it all before I left for the season, I told all the hierarchy I need to go and play football. I don’t

want to be here playing second fiddle. And it panned out so I was almost gone before the manager came in the door and I haven’t spoken to him since.
